We sought to identify predictive factors for aortic valve (AoV) surgery after neonatal balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) and characterize clinical outcomes of AoV surgery after neonatal BAV.

Long-term outcome data of stent-implantation for coarctation of the aorta are limited. We report up to 5 years of postimplant follow-up in patients enrolled into the COAST (Coarctation of the Aorta Stent Trial) and the COAST II trial (Covered Cheatham-Platinum Stents for Prevention or Treatment of Aortic Wall Injury Associated With Coarctation of the Aorta), evaluating the bare and Covered Cheatham-Platinum Stents for the treatment of coarctation of the aorta and associated aortic wall injury.

Recommendations to broaden the use of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) for high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remain controversial with the absence of robust evidence from randomized clinical trials and the risk of device-related complications. This investigation examined whether performing high-risk PCI without elective MCS is feasible and safe.

There is great degree of interobserver variability in the visual angiographic assessment of left main coronary disease (LMCD). Fractional flow reserve and intravascular ultrasound are often used in this setting. The use of instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) for evaluation of LMCD has not been well studied. The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of iFR in the assessment of angiographically intermediate LMCD.

Prospective, randomized, multicenter trials show no beneficial impact of drug-coated balloon (DCB) therapy alone on the technical and clinical outcomes of infrapopliteal artery lesions in comparison to plain old balloon angioplasty. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of directional atherectomy (DA) plus DCB angioplasty versus DCB alone in treatment of long infrapopliteal artery lesions.

Older adults with comorbidities who are at extreme risk for surgical aortic valve replacement may be appropriate candidates for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). We present the 5-year clinical, echocardiographic, and health status outcomes of such patients treated with CoreValve self-expanding supra-annular TAVR.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has determined a paradigm shift in the treatment of patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, the durability of bioprostheses is still a matter of concern, and little is known about the management of degenerated TAV. We sought to evaluate the outcomes of patients with a degenerated TAV treated by means of a second TAVR.

Optimal treatment of stable ischemic heart disease for those in the transportation industry is considered in the context of the individual’s health, as well as with the perspective that sudden impairment could have catastrophic consequences for others. This article focuses on two high risk occupations that one may encounter in practice: commercial motor vehicle drivers and commercial pilots.
