Fibrofatty filum terminale: long-term outcomes from a Singapore children’s hospital

Jia Xu Lim  MBBS , Elizabeth Fong  MBBS , Cheryl Goh  MBBS , Lee Ping Ng  BNS , Khurshid Merchant  MBBS , David C. Y. Low  MBBS , Wan Tew Seow  MBBS , and Sharon Y. Y. Low  MBBS, PhD

doi : 10.3171/2022.8.PEDS22103

The role of prophylactic detethering a fibrofatty filum terminale (FFT) remains equivocal. Furthermore, long-term studies focusing on urological outcomes are sparse. The aims of this study were to present an institutional experience on the perioperative and long-term outcomes of FFT surgery and to assess for factors that contribute to postoperative clean intermittent catheterization (CIC).

Stereoelectroencephalography followed by combined electrode removal and MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy or open resection: a single-center series in pediatric patients with medically refractory epilepsy

Anna L. Slingerland BS , Melissa M. J. Chua MD , Jeffrey Bolton MD , Steven J. Staffa MS , Melissa Tsuboyama MD , Sanjay P. Prabhu MBBS , Phillip L. Pearl MD , Joseph R. Madsen MD , and Scellig S. D. Stone MD, PhD

doi : 10.3171/2022.11.PEDS22262

Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) and MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) have emerged as safe, effective, and less invasive alternatives to subdural grid placement and open resection, respectively, for the localization and treatment of medically refractory epilepsy (MRE) in children.

Germline genetic mutations in pediatric cerebrovascular anomalies: a multidisciplinary approach to screening, testing, and management

Melissa A. LoPresti MD, MPH , Rebecca Y. Du MD , Jae Eun Lee BA , Ionela Iacobas MD , Katie Bergstrom MS, CGC , Samuel G. McClugage III MD , and Sandi K. Lam MD, MBA

doi : 10.3171/2022.11.PEDS22392

Genetic alterations are increasingly recognized as etiologic factors linked to the pathogenesis and development of cerebrovascular anomalies. Their identification allows for advanced screening and targeted therapeutic approaches.

Head and neck angiography in the pediatric population: single-center experience with indications, safety, feasibility, and technical differences among infants, childhood, and adolescents

Andre Monteiro MD , Brianna M. Donnelly BS , Matthew J. Recker MD , Asham Khan MD , Jason M. Davies MD, PhD , Kenneth V. Snyder MD, PhD , Renee M. Reynolds MD , Adnan H. Siddiqui MD, PhD , and Elad I. Levy MD, MBA

doi : 10.3171/2022.11.PEDS22385

Pediatric patients are candidates for head and neck endovascular procedures less frequently than adults. Data on utilization, feasibility, safety, and technical details of head and neck angiography in the pediatric population are scarce.

Increasing precision in the management of pediatric neurosurgical cerebrovascular diseases with molecular genetics

Kristopher T. Kahle MD, PhD , Daniel Duran MD , and Edward R. Smith MD

doi : 10.3171/2022.12.PEDS22332

Recent next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing studies of congenital and pediatric cerebrovascular anomalies such as moyamoya disease, arteriovenous malformations, vein of Galen malformations, and cavernous malformations have shed new insight into the genetic regulation of human cerebrovascular development by implicating multiple novel disease genes and signaling pathways in the pathogenesis of these disorders.

Impact of intraventricular hemorrhage symmetry on endoscopic third ventriculostomy with choroid plexus cauterization for posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus: an institutional experience of 50 cases

Victor M. Lu MD, PhD , Shelly Wang MD, MPH , Toba N. Niazi MD , and John Ragheb MD

doi : 10.3171/2022.12.PEDS22492

The success rate of endoscopic third ventriculostomy with choroid plexus cauterization (ETV/CPC) in the management of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) following intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in infants is not well defined. Furthermore, parameters of IVH at initial presentation have not been tested for predictive associations of ETV/CPC success in this setting.
