| I always take a moment to review confidentiality. Everything that we talk about is confidential, and everything that I write in your chart is confidential. There are 3 scenarios in which I would have to break confidentiality: The first is if you told me that you were thinking about hurting yourself or someone else. The second is if you told me that someone was hurting a child, meaning someone under 18 years old, physically, sexually, or by neglect, or if someone was hurting an older adult, then I would have to make a report. The third scenario is if someone is hurting you. It concerns 2 specific circumstances. If you were to tell me that this pregnancy was the result of someone forcing you to have sex or if you had been assaulted and there were signs of injury on your body, then I would have to make a report. |
