Prevention of vein rupture during hemodialysis access intervention

Prevention of vein rupture during hemodialysis access intervention

(A) Following angioplasty and in the face of high pressure, the injured wall becomes exposed and susceptible to rupture until the balloon deflates sufficiently to dissipate the excessive pressure.

(B) To prevent this phenomenon, manual occlusion of the vessel upstream from the angioplasty sites until the balloon is totally deflated prevents the sudden increase of pressure that would otherwise occur.
