Kawasaki disease (KD) is a self-limited vasculitis affecting medium-sized vessels with a predilection for the coronary arteries. Although treatment reduces the likelihood of developing of coronary artery aneurysms, 5% of patients still develop aneurysms despite treatment, making KD the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children in the United States. Consequently, there is a great deal of interest in optimizing treatment regimens, particularly for higher-risk patients, to decrease morbidity. The aim of this systematic review is to support the development of the American College of Rheumatology/Vasculitis Foundation for the diagnosis and management of KD, focusing on the more complex scenarios in which rheumatologists may become involved, such as high-risk and refractory disease.

To evaluate the prevalence of elevations of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide-3 (anti-CCP3) antibody, rheumatoid factor IgM (RF-IgM) and serum calprotectin (sCP) in pre–rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as well as the diagnostic accuracies of these biomarkers for the timing of diagnosis of future RA.

Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are an integral part of treat-to-target approaches in managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In clinical practice, however, routine collection, documentation, and discussion of PROs with patients are highly variable. The RISE LC (Rheumatology Informatics System for Effectiveness Learning Collaborative) was established to develop and share best practices in PRO collection and use across adult rheumatology practices in the United States

Biological agents have shown markedly different response rates by baseline C-reactive protein (CRP). Here, we determine the response of patients with nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) to etanercept stratified by their baseline CRP level.

Patients with pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus (pSLE) and mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) receive only a fraction of recommended care. Using published quality indicators and guidelines, we developed a 13-item pediatric lupus care index (p-LuCI) to quantify the proportion of recommended clinical evaluations and comorbidity prevention interventions completed and the timeliness of follow-up. Our objective was to assess baseline index performance and identify sources of p-LuCI variation.

Electronic consultation (eConsult) communications between primary care physicians (PCPs) and rheumatologists may reveal common knowledge gaps and educational opportunities. The aim of our study was to identify content themes in PCP questions and rheumatology recommendations through analysis of eConsult and the need for rheumatology appointments and facilitated urgent visits post-eConsult.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is commonly prescribed for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and other rheumatic diseases. To limit retinal toxicity, the 2016 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) guidelines recommended limiting the HCQ dose to 5 mg/kg/day or less. Our objective was to develop a quality improvement program to improve adherence to these guidelines.
