The evidence for the treatment of acceptably reduced intra-articular distal radial fractures remains inconclusive. We therefore compared the functional outcomes of cast immobilization (nonoperative) and volar plate fixation (operative) for patients with these fractures.

The aim of this study was to compare the cost-effectiveness and cost-utility between plaster cast immobilization and volar plate fixation for acceptably reduced intra-articular distal radial fractures.

Cadaveric models demonstrate that failure of hip capsular repair is dependent on the robustness of the repair construct. In vivo data on capsular repair construct efficacy are limited. We investigated the effect of a figure-of-8 capsular repair on hip distraction resistance relative to native and post-capsulotomy states. We hypothesized that an unrepaired capsulotomy would demonstrate increased axial distraction compared with the native state and that capsular repair would restore distraction resistance to native levels.

In 2010, 2 authors of this current study reported the results of Ponseti treatment compared with primary posteromedial release (PMR) for congenital talipes equinovarus in a cohort of 51 prospective patients. This current study shows outcomes recorded at a median of 15 years after the original treatment.

Impacted bone-grafting with morselized allograft chips is commonly used to reconstruct acetabular bone defects in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA). While the overall clinical outcome of this procedure is described to be excellent, the microstructural basis and histological determinants of allograft incorporation remained to be further elucidated.

A subgroup of pertrochanteric fractures—namely, the AO/OTA 31A3 fracture—continues to be a difficult problem to treat, even with cephalomedullary nails. We present the results for 26 patients with a 31A3 fracture treated with the angled blade plate.

In adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), lung function impairment is not necessarily related to the coronal spinal deformity. Recently, right-sided bronchial narrowing has been reported in thoracic AIS. The aim of this study was to describe the relation of chest and spinal deformity parameters, bronchial narrowing, and lung volumes with pulmonary function in preoperative AIS.

The negative impact of cigarette smoking on bone union has been well documented. However, the impact of heated tobacco product (HTP) use on bone fracture-healing remains unclear. The present study investigated the effect of HTPs on preosteoblast viability, osteoblastic differentiation, and fracture-healing and compared the effects with those of conventional combustible cigarettes.

Although safety in same-day discharge total joint arthroplasty (TJA) has been reported, findings are limited to healthier patients, specific surgeons, and/or specific institutions. Indications for same-day discharge TJA have expanded to include patients with multiple comorbidities; however, safety in this specific patient population remains unknown. Therefore, we sought to compare the risk of 90-day adverse events in higher-risk patients undergoing same-day discharge versus inpatient TJA.
