COVID-19 pandemic and population-level pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in general population: A living systematic review and meta-analysis (Update#2: November 20, 2021)

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14318

27-Jan-22

Conflicting reports of increases and decreases in rates of preterm birth (PTB) and stillbirth in the general population during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have surfaced. The objective of our study was to conduct a living systematic review and meta-analyses of studies reporting pregnancy and neonatal outcomes by comparing the pandemic and pre-pandemic periods.

Weight change during the first week of life and a new method for retrospective prediction of birthweight among exclusively breastfed newborns

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14323

13-Feb-22

Identification of low birthweight and small for gestational age is pivotal in clinical management and many research studies, but in low-income countries, birthweight is often unavailable within 24 h of birth. Newborn weights measured within days after birth and knowledge of the growth patterns in the first week of life can help estimate the weight at birth retrospectively. This study aimed to generate sex-specific prediction maps and weight reference charts for the retrospective estimation of birthweight for exclusively breastfed newborns in a low-resource setting.

Association of Apgar score at 5 minutes with academic performance and intelligence in youth: A cohort study

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14320

24-Jan-22

The Apgar score is routinely given at childbirth worldwide. A low Apgar score at 5 minutes is a strong predictor for neonatal death. Scores below 7 have been associated with higher risks of later neurologic disability. Few studies have assessed the association between Apgar score and school performance and intelligence. The existing literature points towards a possible association between Apgar score and later cognitive function, but the contradictions call for further investigation to fully understand the potential association. This study aimed to examine the possible association between Apgar score at 5 minutes and academic performance and intelligence in youth.

Distress, problems and unmet rehabilitation needs after treatment for gynecological cancer

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14310

29-Dec-21

The prevalence of distress, problems and need for rehabilitation among women treated for gynecological cancer is largely unknown. The aims of this study were to examine the prevalence of distress, problems and unmet rehabilitation needs in the first years after treatment for gynecological cancer.

Setting the record straight—Correcting uterine cancer incidence and mortality in the Nordic countries by reallocation of unspecified cases

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14314

18-Jan-22

The incidence of and mortality from cancers of the cervix uteri and corpus uteri are underestimated if the presence of uterine cancers, where the exact topography (site of origin) is not specified, is omitted. In this paper we present the corrected figures on mortality from and incidence of cervix and corpus uteri cancers in the Nordic countries by reallocating unspecified uterine cancer deaths and cases to originate either from the corpus uteri or cervix uteri. To further validate the accuracy of reallocation, we also analyzed how well the reallocation captures the changes occurring as the result of a transition in cause of death coding in Norway that took place in 2005.

Residual tumor and primary debulking surgery vs interval debulking surgery in stage IV epithelial ovarian cancer

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14319

21-Feb-22

It is debated whether women with FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Stage IV epithelial ovarian cancer should be offered primary debulking surgery (PDS) or interval debulking surgery (IDS). Furthermore, the impact of complete resection of intra-abdominal disease (R0) despite their extra-abdominal metastases is questioned. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of intra-abdominal residual tumor, Stage IVA vs IVB, the localization and number of metastases defining Stage IV disease on overall survival (OS) comparing PDS and IDS in FIGO Stage IV epithelial ovarian cancer.

Hysterectomy after uterus transplantation and detailed analyses of graft failures

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14304

14-Dec-21

The first live birth after uterus transplantation occurred in Sweden in 2014. Uterus transplantation has repeatedly, and at many centers worldwide, proven to be a feasible treatment for absolute uterine factor infertility. Hysterectomy in live donors and transplantation are well described in numerous reports. However, there are no reports of hysterectomy in the recipient after uterus transplantation, which will occur at either graft failure, after childbirth, or after numerous failed pregnancy attempts. We present the first report of hysterectomy in recipients after uterus transplantation with detailed analyses of findings in conjunction with graft failures.

Late follow-up of genital and ophthalmologic chronic graft-vs-host disease in females after allogeneic stem cell transplantation

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14308

28-Dec-21

Genital chronic graft-vs-host disease (cGvHD) is a common late effect after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. In a previous cross-sectional study, prevalence, signs and symptoms of genital and extra-genital cGvHD were accounted for in a cohort of 42 women. Classifications of cGvHD were performed as per the National Institutes of Health (NIH) 2005 criteria. In this follow-up study on surviving women, the aim was to assess genital and extra-genital cGvHD status after long period of time. Our hypothesis was that signs and symptoms of cGvHD alleviate over time.

Co-testing in cervical screening among 40- to 42-year-old women is unreasonable

doi : 10.1111/aogs.14311

5-Jan-22

The screening program for cervical cancer in Sweden recommends the use of primary human papillomavirus (HPV) screening for women aged ≥30 to 65 years. Co-testing with both HPV analysis and cytology is recommended at the first screening after the age of 40 years. To fulfil co-testing, all screened women aged 40–42 years within the region of Skåne were co-tested. The aim of the audit was to investigate the proportion of severe dysplasia as diagnosed by cytology and histological follow-up among women with Aptima HPV-negative tests. We also calculated the cost of adding the cytology to the HPV primary screening program.
