Little is known regarding the reactogenicity and related SARS–CoV-2 vaccine response in patients with chronic inflammatory disease (CID). Our objective was to characterize the adverse event profile of CID patients following SARS–CoV-2 vaccination and understand the relationship between reactogenicity and immunogenicity of SARS–CoV-2 vaccines.

Bone marrow lesions (BMLs) are associated with painful and progressive osteoarthritis (OA). Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used to study early cartilage degeneration in knees with BML, but similar work has not been done in hips. The purpose of this study was to compare mean delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) relaxation values (T1Gd) in hips with BML to hips without BML in a population-based study. Reduced T1Gd suggests depleted glycosaminoglycan. Our hypothesis was that mean T1Gd is lower in hips with BML compared to hips without BML.

Local-area cartilage segmentation (LACS) software was developed to segment medial femur (MF) cartilage on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Our objectives were 1) to extend LACS to the lateral femur (LF), medial tibia (MT), and lateral tibia (LT), 2) to compare LACS to an established manual segmentation method, and 3) to visualize cartilage responsiveness over each cartilage plate.

Optimal strategies for managing lupus medications after end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have not been addressed. The objective was to identify the current US-wide prescribing patterns of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and oral glucocorticoids (GS) among systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with incident ESRD enrolled in the US Renal Data System (USRDS) registry.

There are no proven effective medical treatments to prevent calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition (CPPD). Hypomagnesemia is a known CPPD risk factor. The present study was undertaken to carry out a real-world epidemiologic study on proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) use, which can cause hypomagnesemia, and CPPD risk.

Decision-making regarding medications to manage psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is complex because of multiple disease manifestations and comorbidities. Fear of side effects from systemic medications and misalignment in priorities between patients with PsA and rheumatologists makes shared decision-making challenging. We aimed to describe the perspectives of patients with PsA on shared decision-making regarding medication taking.

As first-degree relatives (FDRs) of HLA–B27–positive patients with axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) have an increased risk of developing axial SpA, the objectives were 1) to evaluate the presence of highly specific imaging features as well as clinical signs of SpA at baseline and after 1 year of follow-up, and 2) to describe the evolution toward clinical disease within 1 year of follow-up in a cohort of seemingly healthy FDRs of HLA–B27–positive axial SpA patients.

Despite advances in treatments and outcomes among patients with rheumatic diseases, there is an unmet need in pain management. Cannabis has emerged as a potential opioid-sparing alternative, with arthritic pain as a commonly cited reason for medicinal cannabis use. However, little is known, and we set out to understand patterns of cannabis use in a US-wide rheumatic disease population.
