Role of alpha-2 adrenergic and kappa opioid receptors in the effects of alcohol gavage-induced dependence on alcohol seeking

Douglas Funk a,*, Derek Mak a, Kathleen Coen a, A.D. Lˆe

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114032

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114032

Noradrenaline and alpha-2 receptors are implicated in the neuroadaptive changes in alcohol dependence leading to increased alcohol seeking. Preclinical methods often used to induce dependence, such as alcohol vapor, require long exposure periods.

Agomelatine attenuates calcium signaling and apoptosis via the inhibition of TRPV1 channel in the hippocampal neurons of rats with chronic mild stress depression model

Gulin Ozdamar Unal a,*,1, Arif Demirdas a,2, Mustafa Nazıroglu b,c,d,**,3, Ishak Suat Ovey

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114033

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114033

Chronic stress plays a key role in inducing various clinical disorders through mechanistic pathways, including oxidative stress and apoptosis. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channels, which are permeable to cations, mainly Ca2+, are susceptible to oxidative stress.

Chronic corticosterone exposure impairs emotional regulation and cognitive function through disturbing neural oscillations in mice

Shaokai Zhao a,1, Xinxin Xu a,1, Guoming Xie b,*, Tao Zhang

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114030

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114030

Corticosterone is a stress hormone, which is often associated with a variety of the central nervous system diseases. The study was to investigate the effects of Chronic corticosterone exposure (CCE) on the alteration of neural oscillatory patterns which supported a wide range of basic and higher cognitive activities, and a potential mechanism.

The central organisation of courtship and rivalry behaviour in Gryllus bimaculatus (deGeer) as revealed by lesions of abdominal connectives

Chu-Cheng Lin, Berthold Hedwig

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114005

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114005

Behaviour is rooted in the organization and activity of an animal’s nervous system. As male crickets use their front wings for sound production, the neural circuits underlying singing had been suggested to be housed in the thoracic ganglia. However, systematic lesion experiments of the CNS demonstrated that the abdominal nervous system is essential for their calling song behaviour.

Age effect in expert cognitive flexibility in Guinea baboons (Papio papio)

Julie Gullstrand *,1, Nicolas Claidi`ere, Joel Fagot

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114043

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114043

Cognitive flexibility in non-human primates is traditionally measured with the conceptual set shifting task (CSST). In our laboratory, Guinea baboons (N = 24) were continuously tested with a CSST task during approximately 10 years.

Cognitive control is modulated by hierarchical complexity of task switching: An event-related potential study

Jianxiao Wu a,b, Yun Chen a, Zixia Li a, Fuhong Li

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114025

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114025

The study aimed to explore the effect of hierarchical complexity on task switching. The participants (n = 36) were asked to perform a magnitude or parity judgement on digits (1−9) in the hierarchical simple or complex block. In the simple block, participants made a numerical judgement on the presented digit (1−9) in each trial, whereas in the complex block, they had to first identify whether the digit in the current trial belonged to a predefined category (e.g., whether it was an even number), then perform a numerical judgement or not respond.

Cannabidiol (CBD) drives sex-dependent impairments in omission, but has no effect on reinforcer devaluation

Caroline Morehouse a, Charlie J. Maddox a, Rochelle K. van der Merwe a, Robert McLaughlin a, Jesse R. Scott a, Marwan Ghanem a, Eric Ramsson b, Christopher D. Howard

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2022.114023

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114023

Habits are inflexible behaviors that persist despite changes in outcome value. While habits allow for efficient responding, neuropsychiatric diseases such as drug addiction and obsessive-compulsive disorder are characterized by overreliance on habits. Recently, the commercially popular drug cannabidiol (CBD) has emerged as a potential treatment for addictive behaviors, though it is not entirely clear how it exerts this therapeutic effect.

Volume 434, 26 September 2022, 114019

Obesity is associated with low-grade chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, affecting the brain's reward system by decreasing dopaminergic neurotransmission. It is known that dopaminergic neurotransmission is also reduced in Parkinson's disease (PD), and high adiposity is considered a risk factor for the development of several neurodegenerative diseases, including PD.
