Acute ethanol exposure leads to long-term effects on memory, behavior, and transcriptional regulation in the zebrafish brain

Barbara Miranda Sartori a, Renato Elias Moreira Júnior a, Isadora Marques Paiva a,b, Izabela Barbosa Moraes a,c, Luis David Solis Murgas d, Ana Lúcia Brunialti-Godard

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114352

Volume 444, 27 April 2023, 114352

Alcohol consumption is associated with alterations in memory and learning processes in humans and animals. In this context, research models such as the zebrafish (Danio rerio) arise as key organisms in behavioral and molecular studies that attempt to clarify alterations in the Central Nervous System (CNS), like those related to alcohol use.

Effect of Sirt3 on hippocampal MnSOD activity, mitochondrial function, physiology, and cognition in an aged murine model

Anti ̃no R. Allen a,b,c, A.’Vonte Jones a,b, Francesca V. LoBianco a,b, Kimberly J. Krager a,b, Nukhet Aykin-Burns

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114335

Volume 444, 27 April 2023, 114335

The NAD(+)–dependent deacetylase SIRT3 is a proven mitochondrial metabolic stress sensor. It has been linked to the regulation of the mitochondrial acetylome and activation of several metabolic enzymes (e.g., manganese superoxide dismutase [MnSOD]) to protect mitochondrial function and redox homeostasis, which are vital for survival, excitability, and synaptic signaling of neurons mediating short- and long-term memory formation as well as retention.

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114349

Volume 444, 27 April 2023, 114349

Body-image disturbance is a core feature of eating disorders and can predict their development in healthy individuals. There are two components of body-image disturbance: perceptual disturbance (associated with overestimation of body size) and affective disturbance (associated with body dissatisfaction).

Dominika Radziun a,*, Laura Crucianelli a, Maksymilian Korczyk b, Marcin Szwed b, H. Henrik Ehrsson

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114361

Volume 444, 27 April 2023, 114361

Enhanced tactile acuity in blindness is among the most widely reported results of neuroplasticity following prolonged visual deprivation. However, tactile submodalities other than discriminative touch are profoundly understudied in blind individuals.

Vortioxetine improved negative and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia in subchronic MK-801 model in rats

Nuh Mehmet Bozkurt a,b, Gokhan Unal

doi : 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114365

Volume 444, 27 April 2023, 114365

Schizophrenia is a devastating psychiatric disorder with complex symptoms and neurobiology. Serotonergic dysregulation is known to contribute to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia although dopaminergic and glutamatergic systems are thought to have central roles in neurobiology.
