Dental implant prognostication: A commentary

Vivien Kwok, Jack G. Caton, Iain D. Hart, Ti-Sun Kim

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0196

In this commentary, a practical system for estimating the prognosis for dental implants is presented. Evidence for factors influencing implant prognosis is reviewed. The system is based on the stability of implant supporting tissues as opposed to implant loss.

Modified free gingival graft technique for treatment of gingival recession defects at mandibular incisors: A randomized clinical trial

Olivier Carcuac, Anna Trullenque-Eriksson, Jan Derks

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0581

The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical and patient-reported outcomes following surgical root coverage at RT1 gingival recession defects at mandibular incisors, using either a conventional free gingival graft (FGG) or a modified FGG (ModFGG).

Multiple gingival recessions associated with non-carious cervical lesions treated by partial restoration and modified coronally advanced flap with either connective tissue graft or xenogeneic acellular dermal matrix: A randomized clinical trial

Mauro Pedrine Santamaria, Amanda Rossato, Laís Fernanda Ferreira Ferraz, Manuela Maria Viana Miguel, Beatriz Venturoso Simões, Marcelo Pereira Nunes, Eduardo Bresciani, Massimo de Sanctis, Ingrid Fernandes Mathias-Santamaria

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0516

This study aimed to compare a connective tissue graft (CTG) to a (porcine) xenogeneic acellular dermal matrix (XDM), both associated with modified coronally advanced flap (MCAF) and partial resin composite restoration to treat multiple combined defects (CDs).

Association between depressive mood and chronic periodontitis among senior residents using the National Health Insurance Service-Senior Cohort Database

Yu-Rin Kim, Minkook Son, Seoul-Hee Nam

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0460

Bacteria involved in chronic periodontal disease induce inflammatory cytokines. These cytokines can enter the brain through systemic circulation and cause depression. In this study, we investigated the association between depressed mood and chronic periodontitis in older adults in Korea.

Interproximal implant thread exposure after initial bone remodeling as a risk indicator for peri-implantitis

Andrea Ravidà, Ankita Samal, Musa Qazi, Liana Preto Webber, Hom-Lay Wang, Pablo Galindo-Moreno, Wenche S. Borgnakke, Muhammad H. A. Saleh

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0499

Due to the clinical challenges involved in successfully treating peri-implantitis, it is imperative to identify patient- and implant-level risk factors for its prevention. The main goal of this retrospective longitudinal radiographic and clinical study was to investigate whether interproximal radiographic implant thread exposure after physiological bone remodeling may be a risk factor for peri-implantitis. The secondary goal was to evaluate several other potential risk indicators.

Comparative analysis of sulfiredoxin and total oxidative stress levels in diabetic individuals with periodontitis: A case-control study

Fayiza TK, Ravi J. Rao, Srirangarajan S, Srikumar Prabhu, Vinaya Rudresh, Deepika Oradiyath

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0416

The delicate balance between oxidative stress and its antioxidant system can be disrupted in diabetes mellitus (DM), making the tissue susceptible to injury. Hence, this case-control study aims to estimate and correlate the gingival tissue sulfiredoxin and crevicular total oxidative stress (TOS) levels in generalized periodontitis Stage II individuals Grade C (PSII) with and without type II DM.

Influence of Lactobacillus reuteri, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, and prebiotic inulin on dysbiotic dental biofilm composition ex vivo

Aaron N. Colamarino, Thomas M. Johnson, Daniel M. Boudreaux, Joseph M. Dutner, Brian W. Stancoven, Adam R. Lincicum, Joshua A. Akers

doi : 10.1002/JPER.22-0505

Probiotic bacterial supplementation has shown promising results in the treatment of periodontitis and the maintenance of periodontal health. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the influence of Lactobacillus reuteri or Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis supplementation with and without prebiotic inulin on biofilm composition using an ex vivo biofilm model.
