The most prevalent type of intestinal polyposis, colorectal adenomatous polyposis (CAP), is regarded as a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer with obvious genetic characteristics. Early screening and intervention can significantly improve patients’ survival and prognosis. The adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) mutation is believed to be the primary cause of CAP.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most fatal malignancies, as approximately 80% of patients are at advanced stages by the time of diagnosis. The main reason for the poor overall survival is late diagnosis that is partially due to the lack of tools for early-stage detection.

Molecular mimicry between foreign and self-antigens has been implicated as a cause of autoimmune hepatitis in experimental models and cross-reacting antibodies in patients. This review describes the experimental and clinical evidence for molecular mimicry as a cause of autoimmune hepatitis, indicates the limitations and uncertainties of this premise, and encourages investigations that assess diverse environmental antigens as sources of disease-relevant molecular mimics.

Early and accurate identification of patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) at high risk of persistent acute respiratory failure (PARF) is crucial. We sought to determine the accuracy of simplified Lung Injury Prediction Score (sLIPS) and simplified Early Acute Lung Injury (sEALI) for predicting PARF in ward AP patients.

The only treatment for celiac disease (CeD) is strict lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD). In some individuals the demands of a GFD may contribute to maladaptive eating attitudes and behaviors that impair quality of life (QOL). The Celiac Disease Food Attitudes and Behaviors (CD-FAB) is an easily administered and scored 11-item tool querying potentially maladaptive food attitudes and behaviors resulting from beliefs around gluten exposures and food safety.

Diabetes Mellitus causes a systemic oxidative stress due in part to the hyperglycemia and the reactive oxygen species generated. Up to 75% of diabetic patients present with an autonomic neuropathy affecting the Enteric Nervous System. Deficits in the human population are chronic dysmotilities with either increased (i.e., constipation) or decreased (i.e., diarrhea) total gastrointestinal transit times. These are recapitulated in the streptozocin-induced diabetic rat, which is a model of Type I Diabetes Mellitus.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation has been reported in patients co-infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) during direct acting antiviral (DAA) therapy, leading the United States Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) to issue a black box warning on all DAA drug labels recommending monitoring for HBV reactivation. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation to assess the rate of HBV reactivation among patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) during DAA therapy.
