The anatomical distribution of most neurodegenerative diseases shows considerable interindividual variations. In contrast, frontotemporal lobar degeneration with transactive response DNA-binding protein type C (TDP-C) shows a consistent predilection for the anterior temporal lobe (ATL).

Lower education is associated with higher burden of vascular risk factors in mid-life and higher risk of dementia in late life. We aim to understand the causal mechanism through which vascular risk factors potentially mediate the relationship between education and dementia.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) known before ischemic stroke (KAF) has been postulated to be an independent category with a recurrence risk higher than that of AF detected after stroke (AFDAS). However, it is unknown whether this risk difference is confounded by pre-existing anticoagulation, which is most common in KAF and also indicates a high ischemic stroke recurrence risk.

Cerebral microbleeds are associated with the risks of ischemic stroke and intracranial hemorrhage, causing clinical dilemmas for antithrombotic treatment decisions. We aimed to evaluate the risks of intracranial hemorrhage and ischemic stroke associated with microbleeds in patients with atrial fibrillation treated with vitamin K antagonists, direct oral anticoagulants, antiplatelets, and combination therapy (i.e. concurrent oral anticoagulant and antiplatelet).

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is a progressive disorder mediated by pathological changes in molecular cascades and hippocampal neural circuit remodeling that results in spontaneous seizures and cognitive dysfunction. Targeting these cascades may provide disease-modifying treatments for TLE patients.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease that leads to severe disability. A large proportion of NMOSD patients are seropositive for aquaporin-4 autoantibodies (AQP4-IgG, named as NMO-IgG) targeting AQP4, which is selectively expressed on astrocytes in the central nervous system. This study tests the hypothesis that in response to NMO-IgG, the pathogenic astrocyte-derived exosomes are released and injure the neighboring cells.

Increased intracranial pressure (ICP) causes disability and mortality in the neurointensive care population. Current methods for monitoring ICP are invasive. We designed a deep learning framework using a domain adversarial neural network to estimate noninvasive ICP, from blood pressure, electrocardiogram, and cerebral blood flow velocity.
