This study examined the effects of glucocorticoids (GCs) on bone strength in children with steroid ?sensitive nephrotic syndrome and IgA nephropathy, and revealed that (a) serum alkaline phosphatase (S?ALP) is a more sensitive bone quality marker than tartrate?resistant acid phosphatase 5b (S?TRACP?5b), (b) bone mineral density loss was observed only when both S?ALP and S?TRACP?5b levels decreased, and (c) undercarboxylated osteocalcin levels do not directly reflect bone strength.

This is a retrospective study reporting the effects of Rituximab on 8 patients with the collapsing form of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Whilst retrospective in nature, the study suggested that rituximab might be a promising form of treatment for this condition, which is traditionally resistant to immunosuppression therapy, resulting in a remission rate of 60% with a reasonable safety profile.

End stage renal disease affects specific T?cell subtypes, including CD4+CD28null and CD8+CD28null cells. Although changes in T?cell subpopulations were present before the initiation of dialysis, they were also affected by dialysis modalities, with results favouring continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
