Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition which causes red, scaly patches and affects around 2% of the population. People with psoriasis are more likely than others to suffer cardiovascular disease (e.g. heart attack or stroke). It is well known that regular physical exercise reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, but, worryingly, people with psoriasis take less exercise than most people.

Psoriasis is a chronic disease that causes itchy, scaly patches on the skin and affects up to 3% of people worldwide. People with moderate?to?severe psoriasis may be prescribed injectable medications called biologics. However, people with psoriasis may need to receive medication for an extended period of time, so it is important to know if biologics keep skin clear and are safe to use long?term. Further, people with psoriasis sometimes stop and restart treatments, so it is important to understand if biologics keep skin clear even after a gap in treatment.

Malignant melanoma causes the highest number of deaths among skin cancers. In the UK, it is estimated that 86% of melanoma cases are preventable. Strategies have been implemented in many countries to try to improve the prevention of melanoma, as well as its diagnosis and treatment. Our study aimed to explore the patterns of mortality, or deaths, caused by melanoma over the past few decades, as this information may help us assess whether the strategies implemented thus far have been effective.
