Novel mechanistic insights are discussed herein that link a single, nontoxic, low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT) treatment (0.5–1.0 Gy) to (1) beneficial subcellular effects mediated by the activation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related transcription factor (Nrf2) and to (2) favorable clinical outcomes for COVID-19 pneumonia patients displaying symptoms of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Grade II gliomas are slow growing tumours that usually affect younger patients. The mainstream treatment modality at present is surgical. The role of radiation therapy in the management of grade II gliomas has been the subject of considerable debate. Radiation therapy has a proven potential to prolong progression free and overall survival in high-risk patients, but may also produce long-term cognitive deficits.

MR Imaging is regarded as?the gold standard?for Image Gudied Adaptive Brachytherapy (IGABT) for cervical cancer. However, its wide applicability is limited by its availability, logistics and financial implications. Use of alternative imaging like CTand Ultrasound (US) for IGABT has been attempted. In order to arrive at a systematic, uniform and international approach for CT based definition and contouring of target structures, GEC ESTRO, IBS and ABS agreed to jointly develop such recommendations based on the concepts and terms as published in the ICRU Report 89.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant primary brain tumour which has, despite extensive treatment, a median overall survival of 15 months. Radiomics is the high-throughput extraction of large amounts of image features from radiographic images, which allows capturing the tumour phenotype in 3D and in a non-invasive way. In this study we assess the prognostic value of CT radiomics for overall survival in patients with a GBM.

Adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACCs) are rare epithelial tumors mostly situated in the head and neck region and characterized by infiltrative growth. Here we describe the value of PET/ computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging using 68Ga-labelled FAP-Inhibitors (68Ga-FAPI-PET/CT) and their clinical potential for staging and radiotherapy planning in 12 ACC patients (7 primary, 5 recurrent).

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is increasingly applied in concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally-advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with improvement of target coverage and better sparing of normal tissue. IMRT tends to have a larger low-dose irradiation volume than 3D conformal radiotherapy, but the incidence of and risk factors for pneumonitis remain unclear, especially following the approval of durvalumab.

Respiratory motion during proton therapy can severely degrade dose distributions, particularly due to interplay effects when using pencil beam scanning. Combined rescanning and gating treatments for moving tumors mitigates dose degradation, but at the cost of increased treatment delivery time. The objective of this study was to identify the time efficiency of these dose degradation-motion mitigation strategies for different range of motions.
