Panel A shows focal fibromuscular dysplasia in the renal artery in a 28-year-old female. Note the severe focal narrowing (arrow) in the mid part of the renal artery. In panel B, note the tubular narrowing (arrow) in this 30-year-old male. This is characteristic of focal fibromuscular dysplasia. In both cases, the duration of hypertension was short (<6 months), and the hypertension was cured after balloon angioplasty (panel A) and stent implantation (panel B).
