Urine cytology sediment demonstrates 3 "decoy" cells, characterized by large viral nuclear inclusions that replace the normal chromatin (Papanicolaou stain). The nuclear inclusion is formed by dark, smudged material representing thousands of newly formed virions (V). Electron microscopy (insert) shows the contrast between the inclusion (V) and the darker surrounding chromatin.
