Rinse (Ulcerease): Gargle or swish for 15 seconds, then expectorate; may repeat every 2 hours as needed; do not exceed 12 times/day.

Spray: 1 spray to the affected area; keep in place for 15 seconds, then expectorate; may repeat every 2 hours as needed or as directed by health care provider.

Antiseptic: Children and Adolescents: Castellani Paint 1.5% Modified Solution: Topical (Dermal): Apply small amount to affected area 1 to 3 times daily.

Oral rinse: Ulcerease (0.6% liquid):

Infants ≥4 months to Children <12 years: Topical: Apply directly to affected area with clean swab up to 6 times daily.

Children ≥12 years and Adolescents: Topical: Gargle or swish for 15 seconds, then expectorate; may repeat every 2 hours as needed; maximum daily dose: 12 doses/day.

Spray:

0.5% spray (eg, Chloraseptic spray): Children ≥3 years and Adolescents: Topical: 1 spray to the affected area; keep in place for at least 15 seconds, then expectorate; may repeat every 2 hours as needed.

1.4% spray (eg, Good Sense spray): Children ≥6 years and Adolescents: Topical: 1 spray to the affected area; keep in place for 15 seconds, then expectorate; may repeat every 2 hours as needed.

Contraindications

OTC labeling: When used for self-medication, do not use spray in children <6 years of age; do not use liquid in patients with hypersensitivity to phenol or any component of the formulation.

Warnings/Precautions

Other warnings/precautions:

• OTC labeling: Sore throat: Discontinue use and consult health care provider if sore mouth symptoms do not improve in 7 days; if pain, redness, or irritation persists or worsens; or if swelling, rash, or fever develop. If sore throat is severe and persistent or accompanied by high fever, headache, rash, nausea, or vomiting, do not use for more than 2 days. Oral gargles and sprays should not be swallowed.

• OTC labeling: Topical antiseptic: Do not use in eyes or apply to large areas of the body. Consult health care provider prior to use on deep puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns. Do not use for >7 days unless directed by health care provider; do not bandage affected area. Discontinue use and consult health care provider if condition persists or skin irritation or sensitivity develops or increases.
