Lisfranc and turf toe injury mechanism: Close-up view

Lisfranc and turf toe injury mechanism: Close-up view
A direct vertical force, such as from a knee or shoulder, exerted onto the heel of a fully planted and plantarflexed foot can cause hyper-plantarflexion and subsequent disruption of the Lisfranc ligament. The same mechanism can cause hyperextension and disruption of the plantar capsular ligament complex of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (ie, "turf toe").
