Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea

Postmarketing:

Dermatologic: Acne vulgaris, dermatological reaction, skin photosensitivity

Gastrointestinal: Abdominal pain, anorexia, nausea, vomiting

Hepatic: Increased liver enzymes

Hypersensitivity: Allergic sensitization, hypersensitivity reaction

Nervous system: Drowsiness, headache, paresthesia

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.

Warnings/Precautions

Concerns related to adverse effects:

• Anaphylactogenesis: Use caution with parenteral thiamine; anaphylactogenesis may occur. An intradermal test dose is recommended prior to administration in patients with suspected thiamine sensitivity.

• Iron toxicity: For products containing iron: Severe iron toxicity may occur in overdose, particularly when ingested by children; iron is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children; store out of children's reach and in child-resistant containers. Adult preparations may contain amounts of iron which should not be used in children.

Disease-related concerns:

• Pernicious anemia: For products containing folic acid: Doses of folic acid >0.1 mg/day may obscure pernicious anemia with continuing irreversible nerve damage progression.

Administration: Adult

Injection: Administer IM or by slow IV push; high concentrations may be administered IV after dilution in NS.

Use: Labeled Indications

Dietary supplement:

Injection: Nutritional requirements in disorders requiring parenteral administration of vitamins (eg, preoperative/postoperative treatment; when requirements are increased as in alcoholism, severe burns, fever, GI disorders interfering with intake or absorption, increased metabolism, pregnancy, prolonged or wasting diseases, and where other deficiencies exist).
