Short-term treatment of congestive heart failure where cardiac output is reduced and filling pressures are increased

Dosage Range

Adults: Initial:

Slow IV infusion: 0.5 to 1 mg/kg, then 0.5 mg/kg every 30 minutes as needed until satisfactory response or total of 3 mg/kg given

Alternative dosing: Bolus infusion: 90 mcg/kg/minute for 10 to 30 minutes until response is achieved.

Maintenance:

Slow IV infusion: Initial dose of up to 3 mg/kg may be repeated every 3 to 6 hours as needed

Alternative dosing: Continuous or intermittent infusion of 5 to 20 mcg/kg/minute; maximum dose: 24 mg/kg/day
