Side-lying shoulder external rotation

Side-lying shoulder external rotation
The exercise shown is used to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles involved in shoulder external rotation. To perform the exercise, the patient lies on their uninvolved, or non-throwing, side. The throwing arm begins at the side of the body with the elbow bent to 90 degrees. While keeping the elbow of throwing arm fixed to their side, the patient externally rotates their shoulder, holds the rotated position for two seconds, and then slowly lowers the arm to the starting position.
