¶ For United States population, based on NHANES 2015 to 2018, estimated for age group.

Δ Uses EER equations for adult women.

◊ Examples of activity levels are:

  • Inactive (PAL <1.53) – ADL only, eg, 30 minutes walking plus 90 minutes of light to moderate activity (household activities, cleaning, raking the lawn, etc)
  • Low active (PAL 1.53 to 1.6) – ADL plus 60 to 80 minutes walking
  • Active (PAL 1.69 to 1.85) – ADL plus 30 to 50 minutes walking, plus 45 minutes moderate cycling, plus 40 minutes doubles tennis
  • Very active (PAL 1.85 to 2.5) – ADL plus 45 minutes moderate cycling, plus 25 minutes jogging, plus 60 minutes doubles tennis
