Reconstruction after burn scar excision

Sequence of reconstruction of a lower extremity defect following symptomatic burn scar excision. An osmotic tissue expander was inserted adjacent to the burn scar (A). Once sufficient expanded tissue was obtained, the osmotic tissue expander was removed (B). The burn scar was excised (C). The defect after scar excision (D) was reconstructed using an advancement flap of the expanded skin (E). The final appearance of the wound is shown in (F).
