* For testing recommendations for disease evaluation refer to UpToDate graphic on diagnostic testing for patients anticipating anesthesia.
¶ Results from laboratory tests within three months of surgery are acceptable unless major abnormalities are present or the patient's condition has changed.
Δ Pregnancy testing is not recommended before the day of surgery unless pregnancy is suspected.
◊ No absolute level of either potassium or glucose has been determined to preclude surgery and anesthesia. The benefits of the procedure must be balanced against the risk of proceeding in a patient with abnormal results.
