Standard plain radiographs of the foot

Standard plain radiographs of the foot
(A) Standard AP radiograph of the foot: The AP radiograph provides a better view of the proximal fifth metatarsal. The long arrow points to the base of the fifth metatarsal. The short arrow points to the cuboid. The arrowhead points to the navicular. The "x" lies just medial to the first MTP joint.
(B) Standard oblique radiograph of the foot: The oblique angle provides a better view of the Lisfranc joint, indicated by the thick arrow. The two standard arrows indicate the oval projection of two sesamoids, just proximal to the first MTP joint. The superimposed line crosses the Lisfranc joint and divides the midfoot from the forefoot. The arrowhead points to the body of the navicular.
(C) Standard lateral radiograph of the foot: The arrowhead points to navicular. The dashed arrow points to the tarsometatarsal joint. The standard arrow points to the cuboid. The asterisk lies on the calcaneus.
AP: anterior-posterior; MTP: metatarsophalangeal.
