Nitrocefin beta-lactamase test

The organism of interest is placed onto a commercially available nitrocefin disk. Nitrocefin is a chromogenic cephalosporin; in the presence of a bacterial beta-lactamase that hydrolyzes the beta-lactam ring, the disk changes color from yellow to pink.
