Amputation from brachial plexus injury

Amputation from brachial plexus injury
The patient shown here suffered a brachial plexus injury with little to no use of the right upper extremity. After gracilis muscle transfer grafting, elbow flexion was restored (A). His wrist was held in a slightly flexed posture (B), and his wrist and fingers move only slightly (C). In addition, he suffered from persistent neuropathic pain. He elected to undergo transradial amputation (D,E), after which his pain improved. With the use of an active prosthesis, his functional abilities were significantly better (F,G).
