Bone transport upper extremity

Bone transport upper extremity
The concept of bone transport is illustrated for the upper extremity. In this case, an ulnar bone defect will be filled by progressively moving the proximal healthy ulna distally. This is accomplished by first transecting (ie, osteotomy) the proximal ulna (A). The separated ulna is gradually transported distally into the defect (B). During the process of the transportation, bone callus is formed at the proximal osteotomy site. The process is completed when the transported bone is docked to the distal ulnar fragment; the gap is filled with bone callus (C).
