| Consider thermal ablation an alternate approach for management of cT1a kidney masses <3 cm in size. A percutaneous approach is preferred. |
| Both radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation are options. |
| A kidney mass biopsy should be obtained prior to or concomitant with thermal ablation. |
| Counseling about thermal ablation should include information regarding increased likelihood of tumor persistence/recurrence after primary thermal ablation, which may be addressed with repeat thermal ablation if further intervention is elected. |
