Target muscle reinnervation shoulder disarticulation

Target muscle reinnervation shoulder disarticulation
The figure illustrates an example of target muscle reinnervation in a patient with a shoulder disarticulation. The surgical approach may differ for an individual depending upon the remaining anatomy after amputation. In this example, three functional regions divided from the pectoralis major muscle and the pectoralis minor muscle are used as the amplifier for the EMG signals. Each region is reinnervated by a different nerve, and muscle contraction stimulated from the transferred nerve is sensed by the microprocessor and controls the prosthetic.
EMG; electromyography.
