Diagnosis of centralized pain conditions

Chronic (at least 3 months) widespread (or multisite) pain

Allodynia, hyperalgesia

No obvious structural, inflammatory, neuropathic cause

Coexisting symptoms

Normal acute phase reactants (ESR, CRP)

In selected cases, muscle enzymes, thyroid function tests

ESR: erythrocyte sedimentation rate; CRP: C-reactive protein.
