Continuous wave Doppler across the aortic valve in a patient with aortic stenosis

During imaging from an anteriorly angulated apical five chamber view, continuous wave Doppler sampling is performed along the beam represented by the dotted line passing through the aortic valve (panel A). The peak velocity from this view was 3.3 m/s (panel B) or a maximum transvalvular gradient of 44 mmHg (= 3.3 x 3.3 x 4).
