Apical five chamber view with color flow Doppler during systole

The apical five chamber view with color flow Doppler in panel A was obtained from a normal subject in systole. The systolic flow signal is shown in blue (ie, moving away from the transducer). In panel B, color flow Doppler in the apical five chamber view is seen in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with obstruction. The systolic flow signal is turbulent, with a multicolored mosaic appearance that is consistent with turbulent flow in the LVOT.
