Diagnostic ultrasound of ITB syndrome

Diagnostic ultrasound of ITB syndrome
These ultrasound images of the right knee were obtained before (A and C) and after (B and D) the patient went on a training run. The ITB (indicated by hashmarks) increased in thickness from 1.9 mm before the run (A) to 2.5 mm after the run (B). Color-powered Doppler of the ITB itself ("X") does not show increased vascularity, but the adipose tissue ("a") deep to the ITB shows increased vascularity (D) after the training run.
ITB: liotibial band.
Blue circle: proximal aspect of image; green square: lateral femoral condyle.
