Primary megaureter repair in a 3-month-old infant

Primary megaureter repair in a 3-month-old infant
Intraoperative videos showing a 3-month-old with primary megaureter. (A) Video 1 shows a non-refluxing megaureter that is detached from the bladder just below the aperistaltic segment. Peristalsis can be seen in the proximal segment above the pathologic aperistaltic segment. (B) Video 2 shows cutting the megaureter above the aperistaltic segment resulting in an impressive drainage of urine. Due to the young age of this patient and the complexity of definitive ureteral reconstruction, the remaining ureter was temporarily brought out to the skin as a cutaneous ureterostomy to allow the caliber of the ureter to decrease to a more normal size over time. It is anticipated that the patient will undergo reimplantation of the ureter at 9 months to 1 year later.
