Post-traumatic pleural splenosis

Post-traumatic pleural splenosis
Post-traumatic pleural splenosis in a patient after a remote motor vehicle accident and rupture of the left hemidiaphragm.
(A) Axial computed tomography (CT) scan of the thorax shows a left oblong paravertebral mass with crenated lateral border and an additional nodule along the left pericardial border (arrows) (which was proven to represent splenic tissue on Tc99m nuclear medicine scan).
(B) CT thorax in another patient shows an oblong mass along the left cardiac border with crenated lateral border (dashed arrow). Herniated bowel is visible above the level of the left hemidiaphragm with adjacent additional splenic nodule (thick arrow). A chronic right exudative pleural effusion is also present as a residual abnormality of previous trauma (arrowhead).
