Ultrasound distal biceps tendon complete retracted tear

Ultrasound distal biceps tendon complete retracted tear
The images above show the clinical appearance, ultrasound views, and surgical findings of a Type 3B distal biceps brachii tendon (DBBT) injury (complete retracted tear due to associated EBA tear):
(A) During the physical examination, a clear tumefaction corresponding to the retracted DBBT and muscle (also known as the "Popeye" sign) is observed at the arm.
(B) Ultrasound image in the long-axis view shows the DBBT stump (arrows), which presents a wavy aspect. A hematoma (asterisk) is observed distal to the DBBT stump.
(C) A short-axis view of panel B is seen. It shows a cross-section of the DBBT (arrowheads) surrounded by a hematoma (asterisk).
(D) Surgical confirmation of ultrasound findings from panels B and C. The DBBT and major muscle retraction are verified. The wavy pattern of the DBBT stump (thick arrow) correlates with the ultrasound image in panel B.
EBA: external bicipital aponeurosis; DBBT: Distal biceps brachii tendon.
