Decrease in oxygen uptake efficiency slope in heart failure

Patients with heart failure or pulmonary vascular disease may demonstrate a less efficient oxygen uptake relative to ventilatory capacity, as seen by a decreased slope of VO₂ versus logV_E.

VO₂: measurement of oxygen uptake; V_E: minute ventilation.
