Cortical and subcortical patterns of MRI in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease

Cortical and subcortical patterns of MRI in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
  • (Cortical patterns) DWI and FLAIR from 3 different patients with sporadic CJD show typical cortical patterns. Note that cortical hyperintensity is more conspicuous on DWI and that more than one major cerebral artery vascular distribution is involved, making ischemia less likely.
  • (Subcortical patterns) DWI and FLAIR from 2 different patients with sporadic CJD show typical striatal patterns. Note that cortical hyperintensity is more conspicuous on DWI and that striatal involvement can be unilateral or bilateral.
CJD: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease; DWI: diffusion-weighted imaging; FLAIR: fluid-attenuated inversion recovery; MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
