The above equations are commonly used for estimating basal energy expenditure in children. A variation of these equations includes a height factor, but this does not improve the performance of these prediction equations[3]. Other equations to estimate basal energy expenditure are used by the World Health Organization[4] or Harris-Benedict equations[5].
