Notes
  • The above equations are commonly used for estimating basal energy expenditure in children. A variation of these equations includes a height factor, but this does not improve the performance of these prediction equations.[3]
  • Other equations to estimate basal energy expenditure are used by the World Health Organization[4] or Harris-Benedict equations.[5]
  • BMR: basal metabolic rate.

Equations used

Girls 3 to <10 years: BMR (kcal/day) = (20.315 × weight [kg]) + 485.9
Boys 3 to <10 years: BMR (kcal/day) = (22.706 × weight [kg]) + 504.3
Girls ≥10 to 18 years: BMR (kcal/day) = (13.384 × body weight [kg]) + 692.6
Boys ≥10 to 18 years: BMR (kcal/day) = (17.686 × body weight [kg]) + 658.2

Only digits 0 to 9 and a single decimal point (".") are acceptable as numeric inputs. Attempted input of other characters into a numeric field may lead to an incorrect result.
