Transient nature of brain MRI changes attributed to seizure

Transient nature of brain MRI changes attributed to seizure
Brain MRI of a 55-year-old man with status epilepticus. At presentation, trace diffusion-weighted images (A and B) show hyperintense signal in both mediodorsal thalamic nuclei (dashed arrows), bilateral insula (A, arrows), and right amygdala and head of hippocampus (B, arrow). Coronal FLAIR image (C) shows hyperintensity in both thalami (dashed arrows), fornices (arrow) and right hippocampal body (arrowhead). Trace diffusion-images performed three days later (D) show complete resolution of abnormal signal in thalami and marked reduction of hyperintense signal in insular cortices.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging; FLAIR: fluid-attenuated inversion recovery.
