Interpretation of bone marrow analysis in a patient with suspected systemic mastocytosis (SM)

WHO: World Health Organization; CBC: complete blood count; MIS: mastocytosis in the skin.
* Patients with MMAS or limited clonal mast cell disease may eventually develop SM. Follow clinically, and depending on nature and severity of symtoms, consider serial tryptase levels, CBC with differential, and possibly repeat KIT mutational analysis of peripheral blood or bone marrow. Requires shared decision making with patient.
