Diagnosis of Raynaud phenomenon

Diagnosis of Raynaud phenomenon
The criteria to diagnose Raynaud phenomenon vary, with some experts requiring triphasic color changes, some requiring symmetry, some requiring paresthesias, and some requiring witnessed or photographic evidence of an event. Our approach is presented above.
* Refer to UpToDate content on the diagnosis of Raynaud phenomenon and differentiation of primary and secondary Raynaud phenomenon.
¶ Raynaud phenomenon is typically triggered by cold temperature or change in climate, but may occur with emotional stimuli. Patients may report pins and needles sensation (paresthesias) and numbness with cold exposure.
Δ Patients with single-digit asymmetric attacks, reduced peripheral pulses, or asymmetric extremity pressures should undergo vascular imaging. Refer to UpToDate content on the diagnosis of upper or lower extremity ischemia.
