Lactation consultants
  • Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) have completed training in general lactation counseling and are well qualified to teach breastfeeding techniques and address common breastfeeding problems.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) have more extensive training in the field and are able to address particularly difficult or uncommon breastfeeding problems. Many IBCLCs are nurses who have undergone this additional specialized training.

These professionals are available at most hospitals as well as privately. They are an excellent resource for guidance about breastfeeding, as well as information on pumping, milk storage, and bottle-feeding breast milk.
