Distinction between PE/HELLP and TTP is important for management; refer to UpToDate for details. In addition to these features, other key distinguishing features include increased blood pressure in PE/HELLP and increased liver synthetic tests in HELLP. There is no specific diagnostic test for PE/HELLP. ADAMTS13 activity <10% is confirmatory for TTP.
PE/HELLP: preeclampsia with severe features-eclampsia/hemolysis, elevated liver function tests, and low platelets continuum; HELLP: hemolysis, elevated liver function tests, and low platelets; TTP: thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
