Royal Free Hospital-Subjective Global Assessment

Royal Free Hospital-Subjective Global Assessment
RFH-SGA scheme for determining nutritional status in patients with cirrhosis. Patients are categorized in relation to their BMI, MAMC, and dietary intake into one of three categories: adequately nourished, moderately malnourished (or suspected to be), and severely malnourished. A subjective override based on factors such as profound recent weight loss or recent significant improvements in appetite and dietary intake can be used to modify the patient's classification.
RFH-SGA: Royal Free Hospital-Subjective Global Assessment; MAMC: mid-arm muscle circumference; BMI: body mass index.
* The MAMC can be calculated from the triceps skinfold (TSF) and the mid-arm circumference (MAC) as follows: MAMC = MAC – (3.1416 × TSF). Refer to tables with MAMC percentiles for males and females.
¶ Food intake is assessed subjectively with an established method such as 24-hour dietary recall. The patient recounts meals and snacks on a typical day, intake of food from each of the food groups, and the use of nutritional supplements.
