Targets for preductal SpO2 during neonatal resuscitation in the delivery room

Targets for preductal SpO2 during neonatal resuscitation in the delivery room
Time since delivery Target SpO2 (%)
1 minute 60-65
2 minutes 65-70
3 minutes 70-75
4 minutes 75-80
5 minutes 80-85
10 minutes 85-95
This table summarizes the target SpO2 values for neonates undergoing resuscitation in the delivery room. The oximeter probe should be placed in a preductal location (ie, on the right upper extremity, usually the wrist or medial surface of the palm). Immediately following birth, the neonate's oxygen saturation normally remains in the range of 70 to 80% for several minutes. The goal of respiratory support after birth is to provide adequate oxygenation while minimizing hyperoxia. For further details, refer to UpToDate's topic on neonatal resuscitation.
SpO2: peripheral oxygen saturation.
